Art Exhibit at Swissvale Library March/April – Be giddy: Surreal Paintings on Wood and Canvas by Jenna Colby

Jenna Colby is a self-taught artist who has always been creative through different mediums, but decided to focus on painting three years ago. Originally from Ohio, Jenna has lived in both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. She called Seattle home since 1999 but now lives in Swissvale. You may have seen her work on telephone poles around town in 2020, and as a featured artist for the the Swissvale Edible Garden Tour 2019/2020.

Colby was always influenced by her travels and the people she observed. “I make it a point to take note and assign a story to each passerby, giving each moment in time purpose and color.” When Jenna discovered with the work of artists like Mark Ryden and Yoshimoto Nara she was profoundly inspired. “Their work really moved me. It made me nervous; giddy . . . I’m not sure if there is a word for it. But after experiencing that feeling, I decided that is what I want to do to others. I want to make other people feel that way.”
