One event NOT being cancelled during the pandemic is Love Your Library Month in September. Usually, our wonderful Friends of the Swissvale Library hold an amazing fall book and bake sale as part of the Love Your Library celebration, and it is one of our most successful annual fundraisers. The Friends cannot hold the book and bake sale this year, so we’re counting on our community to show its support for the Library through direct donations. Your generosity can have an even greater impact as all funds raised during Love Your Library Month will be proportionately matched by the Jack Buncher Foundation.
This year, we’re excited to announce that all funds raised will go toward our campaign to renovate the library. We plan to keep its historic beauty, while making it accessible and up-to-date for the 21st century. Imagine, no carrying your stroller up the steps! No sore knees when you make it into the library!
Our 2020 Love Your Library goal is $7,500, which will kick off our building campaign. If you’re able to contribute during these challenging times, you may do so online at https://aclalibraries.org/library-finder/carnegie-free-library-of-swissvale/, by mailing a check to The Friends of the Swissvale Library, 1800 Monongahela Ave 15218, or simply by visiting the library to contribute in person. You can also pick up a Love Your Library yard sign!
While our building was closed, Swissvale Library remained available for you with services that included e-books and other digital materials and virtual story-hours, concerts, and Summer Reading. When it was safe, we opened our front lobby for pickups of requested materials. Now the library is open again, with some restrictions: you must wear a mask, practice social distancing, and limit your visit to 30 minutes. We look forward to seeing you soon!
We appreciate the opportunity to continue serving you and your family during these unusual times. Thank you for considering this request, and if it works for you, thank you for your contribution.
Kate Grannemann Coluccio, Swissvale Library Director
